Norwich Medical School (UEA) runs a problem-based, patient-first five-year MBBS with early clinical placements. Its selection is a two-stage affair: GCSEs get you shortlisted for interview, and then your UCAT cognitive score counts for around half of the final offer decision.
UEA uses your GCSEs to decide who's shortlisted for interview — there's no minimum UCAT to be invited, though subsection scores can be used to rank borderline applicants. The UCAT matters most at the offer stage, where your overall cognitive score is weighted around 50:50 with your interview performance, and your SJT band feeds into the interview score. As a sensible target, a cognitive score in the upper half of the cohort (loosely around 2600+) keeps you competitive.
Because UEA shortlists on GCSEs and only leans on the UCAT at offer stage, it's friendlier to applicants whose UCAT is good-not-great but whose GCSEs are strong. Aim to be in the upper half on the UCAT and to perform well at the MMI, since the two are weighted together for offers.
